Displayed here are two typical andalusí-style marble capitals. They likely come originally from the caliph’s palace at Medina Azahara in Córdoba which, on the fall of the Caliphate, was sacked and its objects sold widely around the peninsula. Both are of the wasp’s nest type, with deep carvings and vegetal decor. The fact that, even within their own style, they maintain the canonical parts of a classical capital (leaves, scrolls, general structure) must be emphasised.
